Miami University Club Sailing Team - Oxford, Ohio
Sail Miami
Who are we?
Miami University Club Sailing Team.
Oxford's fun, adventurous sailing community. Open to students of all levels of experience, we'll even teach you how to sail! No time commitment, what you put in is what you'll get out.
We meet every Tuesday night at 8 pm in Upham 249. We welcome non-members at these meetings to check out our team and our executive board will be available to answer any questions you may have in person or through email.
Chalk talks and practices occur weekly on Acton Lake in Hueston Woods. Days and times of our practices may change each semester to accommodate the schedules of our sailing instructors and members. We sail during the fall and spring semesters and de-rig our boats for the winter and summer. We hold a learn-to-sail practice at the beginning of each semester for new members. If you are interest in learning how to sail and joining the team please let us know!
Feel free to reach out to anyone on the team to learn more or fill out the form at right. Dues cover everything from boat repairs to lodging and flights. Our dues are remarkably low for how much they cover thanks in part to our Alumni.

Frequently Asked Questions!
-
Nope! Many team members come into the team without previous sailing experience. Our community strives to have many different types of sailors, whether that means you’re a pro or a newbie. We have plenty of sailors that have taught sailing during summers and who are more than qualified to meet you wherever you’re at skill wise!
-
Getting started is simple. Reach out through our contact form or contact any of us directly. We will get you connected to everyone and get you involved with the team ASAP. We have weekly meetings along with 2-3 practices a week, so new members are welcome to jump right in.
-
We totally understand how dues can scare new members off. For this reason, we are implementing a delayed and discounted dues for new members. The most important thing for us is to get members on the water and involved with the team, so our dues process can be flexible to meet you wherever you’re at.
2 ways to pay:
Semester ($200) If you don't want to commit to the whole year or are just joining us for a single semester we'd still love to have you on board. This membership grants full sailing privileges.
Year ($300) Most people do this one, it saves money and lets you do everything you want to do with the program. This membership grants full sailing privileges.
What our dues pay for:
Team Equipment
Boat Maintenance
MCSA membership fees
Travel and Housing Costs - All travel is covered after dues (that includes regattas in Chicago, Florida, New York, etc.) There is typically a $10 fee to go to most regattas; however that is for a provided breakfast and lunch as well as use of other teams' boats.
-
We typically have one full-team meeting per week, along with around 2 on-lake practices! It’s very flexible, and if you’re not able to sail during one of the practice days, we can always find a way to get you on the water with a few other teammates! We are also very social outside of practices, but no social events are mandatory.
-
One of the best things about our team is our relationship off of the water! We always hang out outside of sailing and have lots of fun traditions throughout the year.
-
Sailing is a unique and lifelong skill. Some of the benefits include getting off campus and spending time outside, building team working skills, meeting a new group of students, and having unique things to do during the school year!

We have 420s (2 person) boats at our lake, and most of the regattas we race use those boats. Some regattas we compete in are keelboat races which are bigger. If you have no experience, experience with a different kind of boat, or the ones we use, you’ll be able to sail!
